Having a Splash at Oogie Boogie Bash!

Having a Splash at Oogie Boogie Bash!

When tickets were available for Oogie Boogie Bash, I wasn’t expecting to go this year, since I had no plans to drop money on an extra ticketed event.  Also, Cast Members were invited to attend a preview of the event, with all the same offerings and treats, so I thought I had my fill for the year.

Then, I was invited by my friend to attend!  Omg, how could I say no?  And I could pick out a costume to wear, too??  This is going to be fun. 😈

This blog post isn’t an inclusive guide, but rather a snapshot of my own experience and things to expect when you decide to visit! I’m happy to answer any questions or give more details, but be sure to refer to Disneyland’s website for any information on tickets and availability.

What’s OBB?

OBB is a ticketed Disney Halloween Party held in Disney California Adventure.  This event has candy trails where Guests can walk up to receive candy, meet and greets with new and classic Disney Villains, a dessert party (for an extra fee), the Frightfully Fun Parade, and the Villains Grove immersive walk-through.  On top of this, adults and children are invited to wear costumes, which is very cool considering adults aren’t typically allowed to wear costumes when visiting the Disneyland Resort.

Briar Adriana & Ariel

Let’s first talk about my costume lol.  I was Briar Rose, aka Princess Aurora, aka the best Disney princess in the lineup, objectively.

Meet & Greets

Upon arrival at OBB, I was immediately greeted by characters we don’t typically see!  Megara, Pain, and Panic from Hercules were all there!

Pain and Panic could not sit still for a photo!

Hades was there, too.  No pictures because he was freaky.  Sorry.

Just kidding, here’s a video I found!  Would YOU want to meet him if you attended the bash?

I also met Maleficent!  I don’t think she recognized or acknowledged me (which is good because I’m hiding until my 16th birthday so I don’t fall into a sleeping death because she cursed me as a baby).  I’m safe… for now.

The Mad Hatter, Dr. Facilier, the Evil Queen, and Agatha made appearances as well.

There were plenty of other characters and villains to meet, but alas, we grew tired by the end of the night.

We also met Cruz Ramirez-- during Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month?! Wow, truly blessed-- and Lightning McQueen!

Frightfully Fun Parade

We decided to skip the parade since we had done it during the CM preview.  However, for blogging purposes, I’ll share some photos here! They’re supposed to be videos but Squarespace, the website platform which I love so much, won’t allow me to upload my own videos.

The parade itself was very cool and fun; it was refreshing to see the performing arts once again.  I loved seeing the dances, the characters in the floats, and other choreographed moves in the parade.  You could clearly tell the performers practiced hard and really loved what they were doing.

Villains Grove

This villainous walk-through is located at the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail.  It’s transformed through lights, sounds, props, and lasers to immerse Guests through a walkway seemingly taken over by various Disney Villains.

It’s so interesting to see how the villains are represented all throughout-- with red and white roses that change colors to the songs playing, a 3D projection of the Cheshire cat that moves, thorns that seem to grow and move along a wall of rocks, and lasers that project whisps in the air and tree branches up above.

I tried not to take too many videos or photos so I could fully take in this walk-through.  Also, spoilers.

I don’t really use TikTok, but I wanted to compile all my videos into one video so this made the most sense to me!

The Candy

WAIT!  I haven’t even discussed the most important element: the candy!  What candy can you expect?  This year at least, Mars Wrigley was the sponsor (noted on the back of the map lol), so all the candy was Snickers, Skittles, 3 Musketeers, Twix, Starburst, and more.  There are also options such as Pirate’s Booty Snacks, apple slices, applesauce, grapes, and carrots.  I made a fruit salad with all the grapes and apple slices I got :)

I love chocolate and candy, however, my only feedback is

WHERE ARE THE SOUR SKITTLES???!!!

I saw them in the bins of candy at the park. Everyone everyone who attended got one. WHY DIDN’T I GET ANY?

Was it all… worth it…if I didn’t get a bag of sour skittles…? 😔💔

Lol, it’s okay, I bought a giant bag of sour skittles at Target right afterward.

Tips & Tricks

  • The ticketed event runs from 6 pm -11 pm, but the park lets you in starting at 3 pm!  Be mindful of long lines and walk time from the parking structure to the park itself.

  • Also, keep an eye on the temperature.  I purposefully arrived around 6:30 pm because it was 90+ degrees that day.  I was extremely hot even at 7 pm.

  • Disney provides a free bag for your candy, but it doesn’t hurt to bring your own!  Lots of people do so because they know they’re just going straight for the candy lines.

  • Yes, the rides are all open!  Even WEB Slingers: A Spider-Man Adventure was open with a standby line! I don’t care what people say, this ride is very fun and I will always ride it if given the chance.  But more on that soon…

  • The lines for Villains Grove and the candy trails seemed to be the shortest when the parade was going on.  Use that information wisely.

  • Cast Members may cut off the lines ~30 minutes before closing, so be cautious if you’re saving this for last!

Lastly, always be kind and courteous to Cast Members and fellow Guests!  It’s totally fine if something doesn’t go according to plan, it’s just the magic of Disney redirecting you to something way more fun.

So now that you’ve read a bit about Oogie Boogie and his bash, one question remains… What are you dressing as next year?  I’ve already got a few costumes in mind! ;)
