DCP Carnegie Plaza Apartment Tour (Penthouse Suite)
Hello friends! Here it is, what you’ve all been waiting for: a room tour of my penthouse suite at Carnegie Plaza, the housing complex Disney provides College Program participants.
First thing's first— a penthouse suite is a bit of an exaggeration. It is a larger apartment than other ones, however. For those who don’t know or realize, the apartments at Carnegie are all different. There isn’t one main layout that each apartment follows. Some have walk-in closets, others two closets in one room; some have bigger living rooms, others bigger bedrooms, etc. It really just depends where you get placed.
In my last program, I was in apartment 219. I liked that apartment because it was the very last one in the hallway, close to the stairwell, and only on the second floor (no elevator necessary after a long 8-hour shift!). The rooms were also spacious and the living room was large, as well.
This time around, I’m in one of the hundred’s. That means a large living space and dining room. The rooms and bathrooms are also pretty spacious. Here’s my apartment in pictures.
Up first are the shared living spaces, aka the living room, dining room, and the small hallway that houses the washer and dryer. Since we have a lot of wall space, we are able to decorate it with tapestries, artwork, and even a Pickle Rick balloon. We also have a white board where we update it with our work schedules each week. It’s very useful in order to determine who has the same days off, who can carpool together, etc.
The apartments come fully furnished, and with kitchen supplies, too. We also each get our own lockers for safe-keeping valuables.
My roommates’ room and bathroom has been closed for privacy. Theirs is a 3-person bedroom with a bunk bed and a single bed. It also has two closets, a nightstand, and a vanity/dresser. The window faces the courtyard (visible in the gallery above, in the dining room window).
Here’s my bedroom, which is shared with one other person.
Here’s my side of the bedroom (my roommate’s side was omitted for privacy) and the bathroom. It looks a little different since the photos were taken, but the rose gold theme is the same. I changed the poster from a signed Saint Motel concert poster to a Mickey Mouse comic book-style poster. The SM poster was moved above our nightstand, as you can see in the fifth photo. I used washi tape to decorate my wall, since we can’t damage the walls and we are only living in this apartment for 5 months. My Minnie Mouse ears headbands are held up with Command hooks.
I decorate my walls by adding stuff on it throughout the duration of my program. I did this in college as well. By the time this is being uploaded, there are more Disneyland tickets, concert tickets, stickers, and other items taped to my wall than pictured. These are held up by blue painter’s tape, or the clothespins attached to my string lights (held up by blue painter’s tape as well).
My bathroom has a underwater theme, sort of. I had the shark bath rug, purchased at Target in the children’s section, from my previous program, and purchases matching shower curtains. My towels just happened to be in the same blue-green family and go well with the rest of the decor. Our bathroom mirror and countertop are comparably smaller than my roommates’, and I tried to maximize space by adding a plastic shelf (purchased at Target while in college). I also have a basket under the sink that holds a lot of my medicines and supplies (since we do not have a medicine cabinet).
I have a lot of stuff, especially for someone who is only living here for a short time, so my ability to maximize my space and be mindful of how many items I brought with me from home is crucial.
Overall, the apartment is really nice, and in a safe area in Anaheim. As mentioned, other apartment layouts in Carnegie vary, and we got lucky that we happened to get the large, penthouse suite.
I hope this post was helpful to see what kind of housing Disney provides for participants in the Disney College Program!
