May Favorites 2024

May Favorites 2024

It’s June! May is over! The flowers have grown and so have we!

May has been very go go go for me, so that means I’ve tried a ton of new things. Let’s go over some of my favorites.

Here’s a song from the new Cage the Elephant album, Neon Pill.

Neon Pill by Cage the Elephant

I only recently became a Cage fan in 2021, after stumbling across “Black Madonna” in a Spotify playlist during an early morning at my job. I knew of their hits and thought they were a good band, but after listening to the rest of their songs that aren’t typically played on the radio, I was hooked.

The entirety of Neon Pill is phenomenal. It has upbeat hits, catchy lyrics, and an intoxicating indie rock sound. Each play sounds better than the last time. Their sound has obviously evolved from their first few records, but this album feels like it more fully completes the Cage discography and story.

My favorites are: “Metaverse,” “HiFi (True Light),” and “Float into the Sky.”

(Forgive me for not elaborating much more on this as I am not a music blogger or music literate.)

Strawberry Balm Dotcom Lip Balm and Skin Salve

I had never purchased anything from Glossier before last year when they came to Sephora, so I didn’t know what the original formula was like. As a strawberry aficionado, I jumped to buy their new Balm Dotcom flavor that’s formulated in their original formula, strawberry! OMG, I get it. I know why everyone loves the original formula now. It’s so thick and nourishing, with a perfect creamy texture.

I love how long-lasting it is and how it makes my lips feel hydrated and soft for hours. The strawberry smell is so good, too. I find myself reaching for this lip balm on my no-makeup days when I want a subtle hint of color to look fresh, clean, and more put-together.

Vacation Classic Lotion SPF 50 Sunscreen & Chardonnay Oil SPF 30

Attracted by their marketing and vintage design, I decided to try these sunscreens. The smell? Amazing. The product? Perfect coverage that leaves a soft sheen and healthy-looking glow. The branding? incredibly impressive and deserves further praise in online discourse. No further notes other than I want to try every other Vacation brand product and keep this sunscreen in my daily rotation of products.

Ilia Lip Sketch Hydrating Crayon - Kiln

I saw an influencer posted this new lippie on Instagram and knew I had to try it. Yeah, they got me 😔. In my defense, I had a gift card from my birthday and wanted to spend it on something new.

This product is the creamiest, easiest lip pencil I’ve ever used. I used it all over my lips as you would with lipstick; it’s so easy to apply and the color and feel are fantastic. It’s safe to say I have a new lip product I adore and will be repurchasing.

In a perfect world, if I had all the money in the world and didn’t have to worry about overconsumption and waste, I’d buy all of Ilia’s makeup products.

Good Molecules Pimple Patches

As soon as Good Molecules announced that they were releasing hydrocolloid pimple patches, I knew I had to buy them. What sold me was their $8 price point for 60 patches. My previous pimple patch brand sold for $25 for half the patches! These patches do the trick of hiding blemishes while working to remove pimple yuckiness and promote healing.

I’ve used hydrocolloid pimple patches for years and these work great to protect and clean pimples.

Slow Hands

My wardrobe is incomplete without an obnoxiously large and loud frilly collared button-up. This is a staple in my office wardrobe. When looking for a new one to add to my closet, I stumbled across the store Slow Hands on Etsy, which hand embroiders all of its clothing. Their clothes and accessories are cute and I wish I could buy them all!

I purchased their lilac collared blouse and it feels so me. The fit is perfect, the quality is top-notch, and most importantly, the collar is superb. I got lots of compliments on the cute embroidery, too!

The store does live up to its name, though, as it took a couple of months after purchasing before my item arrived. The shop owner is very communicative and the products are worth the wait.

KIT Coffee

The coffee and tea are so yummy! I tried both the Thank You Berry Matcha and the Creamsicle Matcha (and some sips of my boyfriend’s latte) and omg they’re divine. Both are sweet (the creamsicle is much sweeter and with an orangey taste; it’s the star drink of the summer) drinks mixed with the classic matcha taste. It’s clear why the line for a drink here is always out the door.

I also love the layout of the coffee shop. It has a lot of seating— both indoors and outdoors, and a huge bench to sit on while waiting for your drink. Something about the setup feels very open, communal, and friendly.

Thank you, KIT Coffee! We will definitely keep in touch.

Car Wash

This is kind of a weird one to add to the list lol, but both my boyfriend and I got our cars washed this month and somehow the process was so therapeutic that we had to find excuses to wash our cars again. Maybe it was the hushed moment of the fans and whirling machines that demanded our attention, the calmness that washed over us, or the serenity in knowing that all of our problems could be solved with a little elbow grease and wax. Maybe it was that we felt like we were splurging on a little luxury that we don’t typically get— as busy bees, car washes are lower on our priority lists. Either way, it was great to break up the monotony of life and get our cars washed.

That’s a wrap on May and its flowers!

What did you enjoy for the month of May? Anything you’re going to try from this list?

Until next we meet again, friends!
