I Toured Walt Disney's Apartment at Disneyland!
These weekly posts are getting harder and harder. Not in terms of writing, just in terms of content. As mentioned before, I take lots of pictures when I am out and about so that I can remember them and am able to write about my experiences. Looking back at some of these photos, I don’t really remember the context to a lot of them.
But here’s one story…
In the Disney College Program, you are given the opportunity to tour many sites and attractions. Some popular ones are backstage tours of rides like Radiator Springs Racers and Space Mountain (with the lights on!), and tours of the Walt Disney Studios Lot in Burbank. You are also given the opportunity to sign up to tour Walt Disney’s apartment above the fire department on Main Street, U.S.A. This is a tour exclusive to the Disneyland program, as his apartment is only found there.
I had already taken a tour of Walt’s apartment during my first program in 2017, but I was definitely not going to let this opportunity pass me by again. I mean, it’s Walt’s apartment. No amount of money could get you to tour it (as far as I’m aware).
I signed up for the same time as my roommate Penny, so we were able to carpool together. After arriving, we waited backstage for the tour to start. It was cold and rainy, so everyone was bundled up with umbrellas and rain boots.
Without spoiling anything (and to also prevent me from getting in trouble!), I can say that I definitely felt Walt’s spirit throughout the apartment as I toured it. I may have even teared up a little. It was as magical and wonderful as you could imagine.
One of my favorite parts was looking out through the little window that usually houses the everlasting light and seeing all the Guests walk by, enjoying their time at Disneyland. As one of the tour guides mentioned, Walt knew that the real attraction of the park was the Guests. It was so amazing to see his dream come true, and his legacy that has lasted for generations and generations.
My roommate and I decided we were hungry after the tour. We finally decided on Rancho Del Zocalo. I had a trio of tacos plate, which included rice and beans, and Penny had an enchilada plate. My tacos were carne asada, al pastor, and chicken. Yes, the tacos come with toppings but I specifically asked for no toppings because I am a child and a picky eater. I will die on this hill (or rather choke— because eating tacos with just the meat is definitely a choking hazard and requires liquid).
We a nice view of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad while eating. We also had a friend join us, Birb.
Since it was a cold day, we also decided we needed some hot chocolate. Penny and I prefer to treat ourselves when we’re out on adventures, rather than saving up. All within reason, of course.
We then thought, what rides would keep us warm? That’s it! The classic dark rides in Fantasyland! Specifically, Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride! Let’s go!
Carousel pictures are always a must!
Can’t forget pictures with our favorite castle!
We walked around behind Sleeping Beauty Castle for a second, and saw what looked like a hidden door. Upon entering, we saw that we stumbled into the castle accessibility tour. It was a dark, small, but spacious themed room that had one ornately detailed couch and a television screen on the opposite end. A tour of the interior of Sleeping Beauty’s Castle played in a loop on the TV. It was really great to see Disney accommodating every Guest. I hope folks who might want to use it know about it.
I thought this quote was nice. It was painted on a beam in the room.
I’m sorry I took over this couch. There was nobody else in the room, or waiting to get into the room.
Wow, what a quick trip! I don’t have any pictures after hanging out in Fantasyland. I think I had a shift afterwards and drove home to change and get ready.
Until next time, friends!
