Welcome to the Tropical Hideaway
....you lucky people, you!
Have you heard of the newest eatery that’s opened up at Disneyland? It’s called the Tropical Hideaway!
My roommates and I decided to try it out a few weeks ago.
We had heard a few reviews about it, but were eager to try it ourselves. We were especially excited to try the new flavors of dole whip.
I can’t remember, but I think we came after our shift. There’s no other explanation why we would go so late. Either that, or we just decided to come on a whim.
We first went to Bengal Barbeque in Adventureland to grab food to eat. The line was long, as always, but for good reason. The food is delicious, and it’s affordable, too. The portions aren’t huge, so it’s a great meal to keep you going without weighing you down I highly recommend eating at Bengal if it’s your first time at Disneyland and you’re looking for affordable food.
I always go with my favorites— chieftain chicken skewer in a Polynesian sauce and safari skewer (bacon-wrapped asparagus). Bengal isn’t the most vegetarian-friendly. They’re just both really good.
What a fine dinner on a casual Disney evening. Please note the free water cups.
Since we came at night, the tropical hideaway away nearly empty and there was plenty of seating. This worked to our advantage because we walked from Bengal to the tropical hideaway (only a few feet away), and were able to go in line several time to get the freshest food offerings.
What a beautiful entrance! Major props to the imagineers, designers, and construction crew!
Here are some photos of the Tropical Hideaway. Excuse the bad quality and blurriness! I was trying to avoid capturing picture of people. Also, my iPhone may not take the best pictures in the dark.
Great, large canopies will provide the perfect amount of shade once it’s hot and sunny again!
The theming is amazing!
I’m not too sure about the signage here. Is there a reference I’m missing?
This is the walkway to the Enchanted Tiki Room. If you haven’t seen the show yet, please do! It’s a classic, and serves as the inspiration for this dining area.
The dole whip bar! The machines are left, against the wall, and the open area on the right is where Guests stand and order the dole whips. Walking further down, there is another station where you order bao buns (vegetable, beef and chicken), chilled ramen salad, and pineapple lumpia. The pay stations are on the right.
A small corner to the side of the Tropical Hideaway, an ode to its precedessor, Aladdin’s Oasis.
Here she is! The star of the restaurant: Rosita! She’s the cutest Audio-Animatronic at the entire hideaway! I only wish I could’ve gotten better pictures of her.
Now, onto the food!
We all got the raspberry-pineapple dole whip. The tart raspberry flavor mixed so well with the pineapple flavor! 10/10! Also, eating it with the souvenir pirhana spoon makes it even tastier. Trust me, that’s science.
I don’t remember why I took this picture, but here’s the texture. Soft.
This picture belongs to my (now) former roommate Sarah, because we ate the bao buns too quickly to take a picture. I haven’t tried bao buns before, so I’m not sure how to compare the taste. We thought this was tasty and flavorful. Although tasting it from an authentic restaurant would probably change my mind.
Pineapple lumpia! This tasted so good! I’ve only had savory lumpia in the past, and this was obvniously meant to serve as dessert. It was warm and tart-y. Tasted well with and without the pineapple dipping sauce. I would definitely recommend buying this. Careful though, after eating at Bengal BBQ, trying the bao buns, and enjoying the new dole whip flavors, we were stuffed. I had to save one lumpia for later (it comes in a two-pack).
I also had to splurge and get the Aulani ears! Even the tag says “Aulani” on them! So cute!
That concludes our trip to Disneyland this week! We ate, we rode, we conquered. Disneyland was never the same.
Goodnight, Walt! Although it’s no longer Christmas season, your light still illuminates the apartment.
What do you guys think? Will you be trying The Tropical Hideaway during your next Disneyland visit?
