You Would Not Believe Your Eyes…

As mentioned in a previous blog post, I attended the Owl City concert at the House of Blues Anaheim. I’m not the biggest Owl City fan, but I know a handful of their songs. Their most notable is Fireflies, which I remember hearing nonstop on the radio back in middle school.

We all carpooled to the venue, which is located at Garden Walk, a short distance away from Disneyland. There was already a long line outside, but it was moving fairly quickly. The part that probably held up the line was the metal detectors right before entering the building.

After getting our bags checked through security, we bought our tickets inside and found a place to stand inside the venue. The venue is relatively small, with a second floor balcony, a bar, and seating located in the back. Obviously, we wanted to see the band so we chose to stand near the middle. Above the stage, there are different religious and spiritual symbols. There is also the wording: All is one; Unity in Diversity. The venue clearly promotes diversity and differences in humanity, which is admirable.

The opener first came on stage. I can’t remember their name and honestly, I don’t care to do the research to figure it out. It just wasn’t my cup of tea. The lyrics were bland. The music was very folk. It didn’t even match the music style of Owl City. The only redeeming part was when the duo sang Oo-De-Lally for a hot second. It worked for them because of their folk-sound.

The concert was overall super fun! They utilized light very well on the stage— the background would look like stars during certain songs, and it looked amazing. Here are some pictures! Sorry for the poor quality, an iPhone can’t quite capture what you see at a concert.

It was great to have a night out with some friends and enjoy new music. There’s also something therapeutic and stress-relieving about being able to yell at the top of your lungs.
